AHEAD of this month\u2019s 2022 Coles Express NBL1 South season start, the Ballarat Miners have announced a key name will join the club, with NCAA Division 1 Wichita State University basketballer Shaquille Morris added to the roster.<\/p>\n
In his senior year with the Wichita State Shockers the 203-centimetre-tall centre averaged just under 22 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.<\/p>\n
Most recently, he\u2019s been competing in Japan\u2019s top comp and the big man said, \u201cwinning means so much\u201d to him and he expects to achieve success with the Miners.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith coach Luke [Sunderland], the staffing group, and incoming imports. I thought to myself, wow, now this is a team that can win a championship… It was an easy yes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith my experience, I will bring leadership, high basketball IQ, a strong defensive presence, and dominance on the inside.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve heard the people of Ballarat are amazing and love the Miners, so I\u2019m excited to see the community and I\u2019m looking forward to spreading my knowledge of the game to the youth of Ballarat.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sunderland said \u201cShaq\u201d will have a big on-court presence.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has exceptional ability to go with his physical tools. His on-court resume is quite extensive with a great college career at a very high level in one of the most successful eras at Wichita State,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving had experience internationally already, he will be in good stead to play in the NBL1 South.<\/p>\n
