{"id":83624,"date":"2022-04-19T04:55:29","date_gmt":"2022-04-18T17:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=83624"},"modified":"2022-04-12T18:12:25","modified_gmt":"2022-04-12T07:12:25","slug":"music-workshop-educating-on-racism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/music-workshop-educating-on-racism\/","title":{"rendered":"Music workshop educating on racism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council will be hosting anti-racism music and drumming workshops over April and May.<\/p>\n<p>Comprising four free sessions, the program will begin on Saturday, 23 April, and will be led by South African performer Valanga Khoza and local musician Stella Savy.<\/p>\n<p>The workshops will aim to provide an exploration of the music and drumming styles throughout South Africa\u2019s Apartheid era in an effort to educate people about racism.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees will have access to all kinds of different instruments and will be able to take part in singing and performing exercises, alongside recounts of Khoza\u2019s experiences with racism in Australia and overseas.<\/p>\n<p>The workshops will be held at the Ballarat Welcome Centre at Barkly Square, and has been developed for young people aged 12 to 25.<\/p>\n<p>Each session will run from 5.30pm to 7pm on Saturday, 23 April, Saturday, 30 April, Saturday, 14 May, before ending on Saturday, 21 May.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop is part of a collaboration between BRMC, Coco Sounds, and the Victorian Government as part of their anti-racism project.<\/p>\n<p>To book a ticket visit bit.ly\/3KpnF7T.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council will be hosting anti-racism music and drumming workshops over April and May.
