AS part of their annual Environmental Challenge, Alfredton Rotary Club are looking to discover world-changing sustainable concepts.<\/p>\n
Rotary District 9780 Environment and Sustainability Committee chair David Sanders said the Club strives to raise awareness of climate change, pollution, and threats to native habitats.<\/p>\n
They are encouraging residents, businesses, and schools to pitch green solutions to big environmental problems that could help to make the world cleaner and healthier into the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s now up to our generation to set a bright sustainable future for the town and our children,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re looking for bright ideas that can have a positive impact as we transition our community to this new future, and invite people to think creatively about how they can make a difference.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow is the time to get your thinking caps on and be rewarded for being part of this new future, full of challenges and opportunities. Last year\u2019s winners came from Ballarat Grammar School. Who will inspire us this year?\u201d<\/p>\n
The Environmental Challenge opens tomorrow, Friday, 22 April, and has $5000 worth of prizes to award participants in the open and school sections.<\/p>\n
The Club has sent Challenge applications to 140 schools in the Ballarat area to consider for their curriculum.<\/p>\n
Environmental Challenge entries close on Friday, 20 May. Presentations will be made later in the year on World Environment Day.<\/p>\n
The Alfredton Club is a Rotary leader in sustainability initiatives, running the Centennial Park project at Mullawallah Wetlands, the Walk against Waste, and the annual Environmental Challenge.<\/p>\n
Earlier in the week, the Club was awarded by the broader Rotary District 9780 for their commitment to these projects, and their outstanding contribution to the environment.<\/p>\n
