{"id":84475,"date":"2022-05-20T04:58:33","date_gmt":"2022-05-19T17:58:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=84475"},"modified":"2022-05-19T20:16:37","modified_gmt":"2022-05-19T09:16:37","slug":"slava-ukraini","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/slava-ukraini\/","title":{"rendered":"Foto faces from the frontlines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MITCHELL Harris Wines\u2019 latest upstairs photographic exhibition shares some of the human faces impacted by years of war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>The 20 portraits showcased were taken by Samuel Eder and Diana Chipak in 2019 and 2020, as part of a project to capture the experiences of those living by, and on, the frontlines of armed conflict in the Donbas region.<\/p>\n<p>Eder, an award-winning photojournalist, and paramedicine student at Australian Catholic University, said the title of the show is a thoughtful nod to the Ukrainian military\u2019s motto.<\/p>\n<p>Named <em>\u0421\u043b\u0430\u0432\u0430 \u0423\u043a\u0440\u0430\u0457\u043d\u0456<\/em>, or <em>Slava Ukraini<\/em>, it means \u201cglory to Ukraine\u201d and \u201clong live Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A fundraiser for aid groups in the Ukrainian war zone, the exhibition includes written reflections from people within the portraits, and is presented by the Ballarat International Foto Biennale.<\/p>\n<p>Eder\u2019s collaborator on the original<em> Face of Donbas<\/em> project, Chipak, is an economics, entrepreneurship, and sustainability student in the United States, but is from Ukraine\u2019s west.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout their work together, she aimed to \u201creturn a voice\u201d to the country\u2019s suffering people who had never been heard before, and she hopes to help her homeland rebuild in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Photographs by Eder have been featured by Australian news outlets, National Geographic NL, and Radio Free Europe.<\/p>\n<p><em>Slava Ukraini<\/em> will be exhibited Wednesday to Sunday, until Sunday, 28 May at 38 Doveton Street North, Ballarat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MITCHELL Harris Wines\u2019 latest upstairs photographic exhibition shares some of the human faces impacted by years of war in Ukraine.
