{"id":85123,"date":"2022-06-09T04:54:40","date_gmt":"2022-06-08T17:54:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=85123"},"modified":"2022-06-07T21:45:40","modified_gmt":"2022-06-07T10:45:40","slug":"yirram-burron-kindergarten","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/yirram-burron-kindergarten\/","title":{"rendered":"Sebastopol\u2019s morning child rises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OWNED by the local Indigenous community, new not-for-profit Sebastopol kindergarten Yirram Burron officially opened during Reconciliation Week.<\/p>\n<p>The centre has been established to offer families education and care by early childhood professionals, that has a focus on First Nations cultures and perspectives, and is affordable.<\/p>\n<p><em>Yirram Burron<\/em> translates to morning child in Wadawurrung, and the facility can cater to 22 three-and four-year-old kindergarteners per day, and 16 toddlers and babies in long day care.<\/p>\n<p>The State Government contributed $900,000 to the centre through a Building Blocks Capacity Grant.<\/p>\n<p>Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison said the kinder will be a joyful asset to the suburb.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis community-owned kinder will celebrate Aboriginal culture and ensure our earliest learners are getting the best education,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Early Childhood Ingrid Stitt said it\u2019s important to support programs that are targeted to a community\u2019s unique cultural needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYirram Burron will do just that.
