ONE of Creswick\u2019s natural landmarks is set to be celebrated later this month with an art exhibition.<\/p>\n
With community groups and artists gathered by Pavilion Arts Creswick, the group is presenting the Biggin and Scott Park Lake Art Show, featuring works depicting the titular lake and surrounds.<\/p>\n
The exhibition will run from Friday, 24 June until Sunday, 26 June at the Creswick Neighbourhood Centre, and organiser and Arts Pavilion president Andrew Bell said it will serve several purposes.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, it\u2019s about getting the artists to show their work to the community and each other, but it\u2019s also showing Creswick what can happen when all these associations work together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cPark Lake seems to be a bit forgotten around town as well so this is also bringing the place front of mind for people.\u201d<\/p>\n
Twelve works will be selected for a fundraising calendar by Friends of Park Lake, with proceeds going towards planting rhododendrons throughout the site.<\/p>\n
The winning pieces will be decided by artist Criss Canning and Art Gallery of Ballarat curator Kiri Smart, with eleven of the entrants receiving $100 and awards from the exhibition\u2019s sponsors.<\/p>\n
The top prize is $250 and the Biggin and Scott award, who Mr Bell said \u201crescued\u201d the exhibition when a previous sponsor dropped out.<\/p>\n
An opening night will be held on the preceding Friday at 7pm, and Mr Bell said he\u2019s excited to see how the artists honour the Park Lake.<\/p>\n
\u201cI imagine we\u2019ll have more photos than usual which will be interesting but there\u2019s a flexibility in that it\u2019s open to any and all art forms,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd it\u2019s a very big thing for me that the community groups are working together for this. I\u2019m really happy and proud about that.\u201d<\/p>\n
