GEELONG coach Chris Scott admits Jeremy Cameron took a little longer than expected to adapt to his system.<\/p>\n
Cameron, a high-profile recruit from GWS at the end of 2020, was troubled by hamstring problems in his first season at his new club.<\/p>\n
Despite his injury concerns, Cameron registered 39 goals in 15 games for the Cats in 2021.<\/p>\n
Sportsday<\/em> co-host Sam McClure asked Scott, \u201cHow have you felt about how quickly he has fitted into your system and how dynamic that forward line now looks?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt hasn\u2019t been quite as quick as we would\u2019ve liked,\u201d Scott replied.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was fantastic for us in a truncated pre-season when he first came in, but then got injured right on the eve of the season and he did three hamstrings last year.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve been extra cautious making sure that physically he\u2019s OK.\u201d<\/p>\n The ex-Giant has already equalled his season tally from last year and is firing alongside partner in crime Tom Hawkins.<\/p>\n Scott thinks the Cameron-Hawkins forward combination will only get better.<\/p>\n \u201cEven this year we haven\u2019t quite achieved what we set out to with the cohesion in our forward half with [Gary] Rohan, Hawkins and Cameron all playing together,\u201d Scott said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re big believers that cohesion in the forward half is really important.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re still optimistic that the best is in front of us in terms of that combination.\u201d<\/p>\n Scott said star forward Cameron is a \u201cremarkable talent\u201d who continues to amaze him.<\/p>\n \u201cThe whole Geelong environment really suits him. He\u2019s been fantastic for us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cI say this in all seriousness, some of the brilliant things he\u2019s done on the field aren\u2019t as good as some of the things he does at training, even in the warm-up.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s just a remarkable talent.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s a better player than I thought he was, and I couldn\u2019t have held him in much higher regard.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
