THE lights were turned on for City Oval\u2019s netball courts with joint funding by provided the State Government and the City of Ballarat.<\/p>\n
With $383,000 from the municipality and $150,000 in State support, the new facilities include four 200 lux LED light poles alongside a new shelter, fencing and redeveloped court.<\/p>\n
Redan Football Netball Club president Gary Goyne said with the upgrades being utilised over the last month, the teams are already benefitting from the upgrades.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe previous court was a ripple court so it was quite dangerous and always sodden. Now, there\u2019s no puddles forming and the new fencing just makes it safer for everyone,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur original sheds were about a third of the size of what we have now and everyone used to have to huddle together so that, extra space will go a long way.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis all just allows us, in the depths of winter, to train at night past sundown whereas previously we\u2019d have the car lights on and playing in the dark like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
The project was officially opened last week, and mayor Cr Daniel Moloney said the upgrades will benefit more than just the club\u2019s over-150 members.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo have these upgraded facilities and continuing to make Ballarat one of the places where people can be active and doing sport all year round is really important,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have obviously seen the improved playing surfaces, better hours in accessibility and a greater participation across the board.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve also been able to see a range of different netball, basketball and related sports at a senior level here in Ballarat and we\u2019re continuing to improve at the grassroots participation as well.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
