{"id":86336,"date":"2022-08-06T04:57:46","date_gmt":"2022-08-05T18:57:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=86336"},"modified":"2022-08-02T16:34:08","modified_gmt":"2022-08-02T06:34:08","slug":"peter-hughes-swaddle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/peter-hughes-swaddle\/","title":{"rendered":"Fun paintings and quirky people"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TAKE a wander by the water when you step into Art Space Ballarat this month with acrylic painter Peter Hughes Swaddle\u2019s solo exhibition, <em>Where the River Runs<\/em>, currently on show at the Lydiard Street gallery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been painting all these new abstract works over the last four months, and they\u2019ve all got water in them somewhere, from pink lakes to rivers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always been interested in aerial landscapes, looking down on things, so most of these are aerial, but I have mixed up the perspective on others, so there\u2019s also some where the viewer is looking directly at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love art. Photos: EDWINA WILLIAMS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He said he hopes viewers walk away from the exhibition and reflect on it as a positive experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m aiming for it to be interesting, different, gorgeous. That\u2019s what want, because we all need a little bit of cheering up,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf people leave happier, then my job\u2019s done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A \u201cserial renovator,\u201d Hughes Swaddle first started painting canvases to bring some colour to properties\u2019 bare walls, but when he retired from his corporate career, he became fully dedicated to his art.<\/p>\n<p>At his first-ever solo exhibition, he unexpectedly sold 23 works.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the last four years, I\u2019ve treated it as my career, rather than a hobby. Five days a week, I get up, get dressed, get ready, and paint.
