A TRIBUTE band for one of disco\u2019s most iconic acts is celebrating their twenty-fifth anniversary with a return tour to Australia.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, 25 August, the Australian Bee Gees will take to the stage at the Wendouree Performing Arts Centre as part of their 22-stop anniversary national tour.<\/p>\n
Co-founder, manager and Barry Gibb performer Michael Clift said it\u2019s a \u201csurreal\u201d experience to be celebrating the quarter-century milestone.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been such a day-to-day thing but when you look at the numbers of 25 years, 8000 shows, 3000 in Las Vegas, it\u2019s a weird perspective,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all still just love doing it. We haven\u2019t played in the country for at least three to four years so we\u2019re very excited to be back in Australia and Ballarat.\u201d<\/p>\n
Formed in Melbourne, the Australian Bee Gees have held a Las Vegas residency for 12 years.<\/p>\n
Clift said although he won\u2019t be taking to the stage as part of the tour, five performers from the group will take part including two original Australian touring members.<\/p>\n
The company comprises over 30 members, and Clift said many of the performers will go on tour while the core team maintains their \u201chome base\u201d in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n
With decades of music to cover, Clift said their show goes beyond just playing the classics.<\/p>\n
\u201cMost of their hits are from the 60s and 70s but we look at the whole catalogue, including songs they wrote for other people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe draw from all their eras, not just the immediate stuff people would be thinking about. That\u2019s where we really have some input and creativity.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor us, it\u2019s always about giving a really open picture about their career because it is a real history and you\u2019re never sure what fans will draw on.\u201d<\/p>\n
