GARDENING and sustainability will be at the forefront of Ballarat Libraries\u2019 offerings on Saturday, 27 August which aims to showcase the region\u2019s green thumb groups.<\/p>\n
Following Jaclyn Crupi\u2019s Garden Like a Nonno presentation, representatives from local grassroots organisations will talk about their group and topics like sustainable gardening tactics and food preservation.<\/p>\n
Taking place at Ballarat Library from 12.30am, City of Ballarat mayor Cr Daniel Moloney said the free events will provide environmental insights for the community.<\/p>\n
“From Garden to Kitchen Lightning Talks at the Ballarat Libraries is an event that aligns with our priority to reach out, engage and offer inclusive programs to the entire community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese lightning talks are a series of short presentations from grassroots local organisations in Ballarat, offering the community invaluable advice and insights into food security, food waste and sustainability.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn addition to this we also have an earlier talk, Garden Like a Nonno with author, Jaclyn Crupi.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis starts at 10.30am and is a fantastic opportunity to absorb her family knowledge on productive gardening from seasonal gardening, soil health and composting.”<\/p>\n
Each group will have 15 minutes to discuss their topic, with representatives from Gardens for Wildlife Ballarat, Food is Free, Ballarat Renewable Energy and Zero Emissions, The Hidden Orchard, Ballarat Permaculture Guild and Ballarat, and District Aboriginal Cooperative.<\/p>\n
BREAZE president Mary Debrett is one of the speakers and said her talk will showcase the organisation\u2019s regular activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll be talking about the different things BREAZE does and we\u2019ll take it as an opportunity to join us and support our work in reducing emissions,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe run things like the Smart Living Ballarat talks and social solar programs where we fundraise and manage the solar on the roofs of non-profits.\u201d<\/p>\n
