THE usable area that makes up Ballarat\u2019s e-scooter hire scheme is set to grow.<\/p>\n
Currently limited to areas surrounding the CBD and Lake Wendouree, a statement from operator Neuron said new locations the scooters could be used included Lucas, and parts of Delacombe, Ballarat North and Brown Hill.<\/p>\n
The move will add about 15 square kilometres to the device\u2019s accessible range.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are delighted to be extending Ballarat\u2019s existing riding area, e-scooters have become very popular in Ballarat and we look forward to being able to serve more people in the suburbs,\u201d said Richard Hannah, head of ANZ of Neuron Mobility.<\/p>\n
\u201cE-scooters are a fantastic way to travel around the city and the new riding area will further extend people\u2019s range, allowing them to see more, do more and spend more.\u201d<\/p>\n
As part of the increased coverage area up to an extra 150 of the brightly coloured orange e-scooters will be added to the already 250 in the city.<\/p>\n
A trail of the e-scooters got underway in late 2021 with backing from the State Government and the City of Ballarat.<\/p>\n
Mayor Cr Daniel Moloney said he welcomed growth in the device\u2019s usable area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe City of Ballarat is happy to support the extension of the e-scooter program,\u201d he said. \u201cNeuron e-scooters provide riders with an environmentally friendly and inexpensive way to travel.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe expansion of the riding is perfectly timed for spring and summer in Ballarat, and the new area means that more people can visit and support local businesses in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to data gathered by Neuron, Ballarat\u2019s e-scooters riders have collectively travelled more than 300,000 kilometres since launching last December.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
