putting nature on show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Caring for Nature Expo is an opportunity for anyone interested in nature to meet with some of the many groups active across the Central Highlands region and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone interested in finding out more about nature is welcome,\u201d said event organiser Cherie Draper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParticularly younger people who may be looking for ways to learn more about caring for nature in your own backyard, or through volunteering opportunities or potential career pathways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The expo will begin at 10am with a welcome to country and smoking ceremony by Wadawurrung man, Barry Gilson, and conclude at 3pm.<\/p>\n<p>Co-hosted by the Victorian Environment Friends Network and the Environmental Volunteer &amp; Agency Network, the expo is part of the Victoria Nature Festival.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-87323\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/09\/425565329-wallaby-2-600x380.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>What can I do at the Caring for Nature Expo?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cook your own \u2018Deadly Damper\u2019<\/li>\n<li>Go on a mini-bug blitz<\/li>\n<li>Learn about backyard habitat such as nest boxes and planting for pollinators<\/li>\n<li>Develop new skills with a wattle identification workshop<\/li>\n<li>Gain insights into local bird species through an introduction to bird watching and forest walk<\/li>\n<li>Sieve some seeds with Seeding Victoria and be part of ongoing efforts to restore our landscapes<\/li>\n<li>Pick up a copy of <em>Grow Wild<\/em> to learn more about creating gardens for wildlife<\/li>\n<li>Chill out with Y Ballarat and enjoy some games and activities hosted by the Youth Team<\/li>\n<li>Grab a snag from the sausage sizzle<\/li>\n<li>Enjoy delicious food from Flying Chillies<\/li>\n<li>Hear how artificial lighting is affecting people and wildlife and what you can do to secure a dark sky future<\/li>\n<li>Listen to a range of informative and inspiring speakers<\/li>\n<li>Wander the stalls and chat with like-minded others<\/li>\n<li>Find out \u2018what can I do?\u2019 to care for nature<\/li>\n<li>Be inspired by the work of our wonderful volunteers
