THE State Government\u2019s month-long Vic Youth Fest initiative is encouraging groups to engage young people with activities and events.<\/p>\n
One such initiative, coordinated by Ballarat Action Climate Co-op, Food Is Free, Nature\u2019s Images and the Green House Ballarat aims to teach young people how to make their own terrarium.<\/p>\n
The free workshop, titled A Good Day to Grow, will take place at The Green House\u2019s Delacombe nursery, cafe and event space from 1am to 4pm on Saturday, 17 September.<\/p>\n
BACC member and co-coordinator Marco Pasakos said it will be an opportunity for young people to reconnect while learning a new skill.<\/p>\n
\u201cYoung people, especially during the pandemic, there was not a lot for us to do other than be online, so as a young person I\u2019ve really missed that social connection,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough this event, I feel like I can help others like myself to reengage socially as well as learn about house plants which a lot of young people are really interested in.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will be a plant propagation workshop aimed around terrarium making and talking about plant care.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event is open for people aged between 12 and 25, with numbers capped at about 30 people.<\/p>\n
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own jars and glasses in creating their plant containers, which co-coordinator and FIF secretary Katja Fielder said reinforces the groups\u2019 commitment to reusability.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re trying to source as much as we can for this workshop that\u2019s already been pre-loved or pre-used,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cInstead of buying brand new vessels or objects to add to their terrarium, we\u2019re actually calling for people to donate their glass jars and things like that.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a creative activity but it\u2019s also a great way to show how you can reuse, reduce and recycle things in a fun way.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
