{"id":87743,"date":"2022-09-30T04:47:24","date_gmt":"2022-09-29T18:47:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=87743"},"modified":"2022-09-28T19:06:02","modified_gmt":"2022-09-28T09:06:02","slug":"distinguished-gentlemans-drive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/distinguished-gentlemans-drive\/","title":{"rendered":"Distinguished drive for men\u2019s health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A FINE display of vintage vehicular style moved through Ballarat last weekend, but those involved weren\u2019t just going for a leisurely drive in the sunshine in their Sunday best.<\/p>\n<p>Sixty-two classic cars and motorbikes manufactured no later than 1980, and their owners, took part in The Distinguished Gentleman\u2019s Drive, which set off from Creswick Road at 9am, and travelled up and around the goldfields region.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative\u2019s aim was to raise money for Movember, which benefits prostate and testicular cancer research and awareness, and men\u2019s mental health programs.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Begley took part in this his 1969 primrose-coloured MG and said the cause was near to his heart.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_87684\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-87684\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-87684\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/09\/IMG_2557-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/09\/IMG_2557-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/09\/IMG_2557-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/09\/IMG_2557-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/09\/IMG_2557-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/09\/IMG_2557-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-87684\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Steve Begley and his 1969 MG all ready to roll.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve got family and friends that have troubles with mental health as well as prostate cancer, so it\u2019s close to us, but it resonates with everyone,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsking people to sponsor the drive was no problem because they relate to it, and to raise funds and drive the car on a beautiful day around the goldfields areas is fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a new resident to the region, Joel Priestland said the drive was not only an opportunity to support a good cause, but to get to know the area in his lockdown restoration project, a 1970 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super 1.6.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the first time I\u2019ve had my car out, really.
