WESTERN United Football Club is set to play two A-League Women games next year in Ballarat as part of the upcoming season.<\/p>\n
The matches will be held at the Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility at Morshead Park, with points going towards the premiership.<\/p>\n
City of Ballarat mayor Cr Daniel Moloney said it will be special to welcome the club\u2019s female players.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe treasure the strong relationship we have with Western United and having the women\u2019s side playing home games in Ballarat only makes that connection stronger,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have loved hosting the men\u2019s side for the last two seasons, and we know the women\u2019s side is going to be just as exciting.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo be able to host matches of this quality at Morshead Park is a further testament to our investment at the venue.\u201d<\/p>\n
This season will see the club fielding a women\u2019s side for the first time in the Liberty A-League division, having been a part of the men\u2019s competition since the 2019\/2020 season.<\/p>\n
The first match played locally will see Western United come up against Perth Glory Football Club in round 13 on Saturday, 4 February, with kick-off at 3pm.<\/p>\n
United will return in round 16 for the second local match against Sydney Football Club on Sunday, 5 March, with a slightly later 4pm kick-off.<\/p>\n
Eighteen women are confirmed to have signed on to the side with pre-season training expected to begin next month.<\/p>\n
The club\u2019s first A-League Women\u2019s match will take place on Saturday, 19 November against Melbourne Victory Football Club.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
