AN annual fundraising walk in support of premature babies is returning this weekend.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, 23 October, the Walk for Prems event will support non-profit charity, Life\u2019s Little Treasures, and CEO Felicia Welstead said it\u2019s their essential fundraising drive.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll the money we get through this ensures we can continue to provide our 20 products and services,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHolding both digital and our physical walks will mean people in both the major cities and out in rural and regional can take part.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is looking to be our most successful walk yet. We\u2019ve already raised $480,000 for this year.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cash raised from the walk will go towards the foundation\u2019s resources like $250 assistance vouchers and guidebooks for the families of premature babies.<\/p>\n
Ballarat East resident Katie Chancellor\u2019s second child Rosie was born earlier this year at nearly 31 weeks, and weighed 1.5 kilograms.<\/p>\n
She said the foundation has been a great support for her and her family.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn Rosie\u2019s first night in the NICU department, there was a Precious Prem Pack which was such a lovely surprise,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt contained so many wonderful things and was so helpful. It all prepared us a little bit more. There was also an info booklet and some little hand-knitted clothes and calm cards.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Chancellor and her family will be taking part in the upcoming walk for the first time, which she said is her way of saying thanks to Life\u2019s Little Treasures.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel really passionate about supporting them now as a way to give back. They do so much wonderful work for families across Australia,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to help, give back and raise awareness. The walk\u2019s just a wonderful cause.\u201d<\/p>\n
The fundraising event is set to be held in six locations throughout Australia and has been running for 12 years, during which it has raised about $3 million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
