{"id":88876,"date":"2022-11-24T04:46:13","date_gmt":"2022-11-23T17:46:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=88876"},"modified":"2022-11-23T15:49:34","modified_gmt":"2022-11-23T04:49:34","slug":"haddon-revved-up-for-top-level-kart-racing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/sport\/haddon-revved-up-for-top-level-kart-racing\/","title":{"rendered":"Haddon revved up for top-level kart racing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLARAT Kart Club\u2019s Haddon-based track was roaring with engine activity over the weekend with nearly 180 racers competing in the sixth-round finale of this year\u2019s Victorian Country Racing Series.<\/p>\n<p>Club president Bill West said the weekend was a big one for the membership, and their first time holding a major race meet since 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is our biggest event of the year so it\u2019s a big deal for us to be back,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had a lot of come and trys and club days in between but to be able to hold this event is massive for us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great for our younger members too to have that outlet of being on the road before they go for their license.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Individual racers and members from Hamilton, Horsham, Portland, Geelong and Cobden competed across 14 categories.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_88878\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88878\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-88878\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/11\/20221119-Ballarat-times-MC_28-scaled-e1669178843669-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/11\/20221119-Ballarat-times-MC_28-scaled-e1669178843669-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/11\/20221119-Ballarat-times-MC_28-scaled-e1669178843669-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/11\/20221119-Ballarat-times-MC_28-scaled-e1669178843669-272x182.jpg 272w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/11\/20221119-Ballarat-times-MC_28-scaled-e1669178843669.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-88878\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An official waves the checkered flag.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Following setup and practice on Friday, races took place all day on the Saturday before finals and awards presentation on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong Kart Club member Marc Sortino took to the 675-metre track to compete in the X30 class races.<\/p>\n<p>He said despite rain and muddy conditions on the Saturday, the event made for a fun and entertaining day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great atmosphere. There\u2019s lots of families here and people watching. That\u2019s what it\u2019s all about,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s plenty of mates here. I see more mates at go karts than I do at home. Even if you\u2019re not winning, even if it\u2019s raining, it\u2019s great.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe track\u2019s really good too.
