{"id":89328,"date":"2022-12-09T04:57:42","date_gmt":"2022-12-08T17:57:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=89328"},"modified":"2022-12-08T19:40:50","modified_gmt":"2022-12-08T08:40:50","slug":"christmas-spirit-alive-in-the-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/christmas-spirit-alive-in-the-city\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas spirit alive in the city"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WITH just a handful of sleeps until 25 December, the city is feeling festive, especially after the launch of the Christmas in Ballarat campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The floral reindeer and giant bauble are back in the CBD, and big decorations made by local artists have also been hung on the Christmas tree opposite Myer.<\/p>\n<p>But last week, Saint Nick\u2019s Musical Workshop was officially launched, based in the pop-up garden at Sturt and Albert streets.<\/p>\n<p>The motion activated scene has been created by luthier, or instrument maker, musician, and artist Nick Carpenter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been working on this project for two months,\u201d he said. \u201cWith Saint Nick\u2019s Musical Workshop, I\u2019ve taken the theme of Santa\u2019s Workshop and given it a twist, putting musical instruments in there.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_89204\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89204\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-89204\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/12\/IMG_1201-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/12\/IMG_1201-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/12\/IMG_1201-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/12\/IMG_1201-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/12\/IMG_1201-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/12\/IMG_1201-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-89204\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Saint Nick\u2019s Musical Workshop has been brought to life by instrument maker and creative Nick Carpenter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of ukuleles as Santa\u2019s little helpers and a horn section. There\u2019s music and a light display, many different parts, and a lot going on in there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can scan a QR code on the window to see more about the display.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s also a new Christmas Art Trail to be discovered created by author and artist Liv Lorkin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve illustrated five murals based on designs from my <em>Christmas in Ballarat<\/em> children\u2019s book, and they tell a condensed story,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA reindeer has eaten the map of Ballarat, and the Wendouree Pals, characters from my books, need to help solve the problem. There\u2019s a celebration at the end.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you go to each mural around the CBD, and pick up a map from the town hall, you could win a $500 hamper by answering questions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love the spirit of Christmas&#8230; and illustrations are such a wonderful way to express and capture the Ballarat community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Live music and roving performers will be heard and seen in the centre of Ballarat throughout December, including the Ballarat City Brass Band, and members of Ballarat Centre for Music and the Arts.<\/p>\n<p>The Christmas Arts trail begins outside Target on Doveton Street.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WITH just a handful of sleeps until 25 December, the city is feeling festive, especially after the launch of the Christmas in Ballarat campaign.
