A ROUNDABOUT as well as a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists are set to be built at the off ramp of the Western Freeway and Ballarat-Maryborough Road intersection.<\/p>\n
Paid for by the State Government, the $5.6 million worth of works in Mitchell Park will aim to cater to the area\u2019s growing population and the Ballarat West Employment Zone traffic, seek to make vehicle flow smoother and reduce risk.<\/p>\n
Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Melissa Horne, said the roundabout at the interchange will improve safety.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis upgrade will… ensure planned infrastructure matches the increasing demand, particularly near the Ballarat West Employment Zone,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
For Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison, the works are a big win for area residents and businesses.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot only for motorists, but for the pedestrians and cyclists who will reap the rewards of new shared user path facilities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Until October, weather permitting, it\u2019s expected that workers will be on site at the Western Freeway and Ballarat-Maryborough Road intersection from 7am to 6pm on weekdays.<\/p>\n
Traffic management including a 40-kilometre speed limit and lane closures will be in place in the area.<\/p>\n
Drivers can expect delays of up to five minutes to their journey and are asked to consider the works when planning their trip.<\/p>\n
