A MOSAIC showcase in Soldiers Hill is about much more than pretty plates and platters pieced together.<\/p>\n
Ceramic artist Camilla Watson said her solo exhibition Like a Beautiful Dream<\/em> has a theme of mental health and reaching for the stars.<\/p>\n \u201cBeing creative helps me to be more mindful and to foster my own strengths,\u201d she said. \u201cThis exhibition is about making your dreams come true… and to be doing my art is my dream.<\/p>\n \u201cI want to impart that feeling to everyone that visits; having a hobby that you can throw yourself into and get joy from.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve also got special pieces in the show. I\u2019ve made wishing stars, and when someone buys them, they get a little card which encourages them to write down set goals to achieve their dreams.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople can put them on their wall and they\u2019ll be a reminder of things they can do to help themselves, or their mental health.\u201d<\/p>\n Some food-centric pieces have been created especially for the show\u2019s venue, The Old Butcher\u2019s Shop Gallery, while a series of floral plates are a reminder to \u201cstop and smell the roses, be in the moment, and enjoy the senses.\u201d<\/p>\n Watson studied ceramic design at university and has been building mosaic pieces since then.<\/p>\n She creates her pieces from home on the kitchen table, some commissions, and sources her materials from antique and op shops.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s really fun to walk in and get lost in my imagination about what I\u2019m going to build,\u201d Watson said. \u201cI love designing, placing things, and getting my imagination going.\u201d<\/p>\n
