STAFF at Royal South Street Society are putting the call out for people to take part in their inaugural volunteer engagement boot camp.<\/p>\n
Set for early March at the Robert Clark Conservatory, the free initiative is the brainchild of general manager Tennille McLauchlan.<\/p>\n
She said the aim is to help the people behind the scenes of their Eisteddfods the best they can be.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a chance for us to identify people\u2019s skills and whether they\u2019re in the right role when they come and volunteer with us. It\u2019s hyperspecialized,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is open to new and existing volunteers and new people and really about trying to widen our breadth. Anyone aged 16 and up can participate.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll have a focus on event management and planning, public speaking roles and hospitality roles, that sort of thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms McLauchlan will coordinate the program alongside about a dozen Royal South Street representatives.<\/p>\n
The boot camp will consist of simulated performances where participants can practice their chosen volunteer roles such as ushering, stage handling, audience addressing.<\/p>\n
With about 200 active volunteers registered with the arts competition, Ms McLauchlan said they\u2019re \u201cessential\u201d to their operation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have a real passion for their chosen area and an understanding of what that requires when someone\u2019s performing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re hoping this will be a chance for us to build our culture and develop leadership within Royal South Street.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor existing volunteers who participate, I really hope they can educate and inspire new volunteers while still being able to upskill.\u201d<\/p>\n
