{"id":91314,"date":"2023-02-24T04:56:43","date_gmt":"2023-02-23T17:56:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=91314"},"modified":"2023-02-24T13:34:53","modified_gmt":"2023-02-24T02:34:53","slug":"seniors-put-on-a-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/seniors-put-on-a-party\/","title":{"rendered":"Seniors put on a party!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IN 1967, a senior citizens club began in a church hall in Ballarat North.<\/p>\n<p>The group grew and members decided to fundraise, and apply for grants, to cover the costs of purchasing a block of municipal land and building their own clubrooms.<\/p>\n<p>Ballarat North Senior Citizens Centre has been on that Walker and Armstrong street site since 1973, and last week, members and guests celebrated their social group&#8217;s belated 55th anniversary with a party.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are the oldest club of this kind in Ballarat, and still going strong,&#8221; said president Dianne Ingle.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s an outlet for people, and somewhere to go. That&#8217;s what clubs are for. It&#8217;s a friendly club, it&#8217;s easy to get to, with lots of facilities. I love the club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ballarat North Senior Citizens encourage people over 55 to join them as they aim to rebuild their membership.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need younger people to step up and come onto the committee,&#8221; Mrs Bailey said. &#8220;We need more participation, and more membership to keep running.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IN 1967, a senior citizens club began in a church hall in Ballarat North.
