THE similarities keep coming for two local authors who discovered they recently published their latest works a couple of days apart from each other.<\/p>\n
Now Elizabeth Coleman and Olivia Wearne have become fast friends following the release of their second novels.<\/p>\n
Both crime fiction books, Coleman\u2019s is titled A Routine Infidelity and Wearne\u2019s The Woman Who Knew Too Little.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got an email from my agent saying there was another author in Ballarat whose story was very similar to mine and asked if I wanted to meet her,\u201d Coleman said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe met for coffee and she said \u2018my second book\u2019s coming out\u2019 and I said my second book\u2019s coming out!<\/p>\n
\u201cHer book has a female detective. My book has a female detective. It was uncanny, so we thought we would join forces and get ourselves out there through these remarkable coincidences.\u201d<\/p>\n
Both screenwriters by trade, Wearne moved to Ballarat and started writing professionally 15 years ago while Coleman has been crafting words for 30 years and relocated to the region in the last half-decade.<\/p>\n
Coleman said the pair\u2019s shared screenwriting influences is a prominent factor in both their styles.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnother similarity we share is that our screen experiences have really helped us with story structure,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBoth our stories kind of move along quickly because we\u2019ve had to work to commercial breaks and things like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Coleman said it\u2019s important for Australian creatives to support each other.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s such a small industry here, anything creative,\u201d she said.\u201d We\u2019re competing with enormous overseas giants.<\/p>\n
