YOUNG musician and composer Jorell Mobbs is preparing for the biggest gig of his life so far.<\/p>\n
The Ballarat Grammar year 12 student has been awarded an place in VCE Seasons of Excellence Top Designs and is set to perform in the Top Class Sound showcase this month at the Melbourne Recital Centre.<\/p>\n
Mobbs, and his brother Declan, will perform an original song Every Time, which was written and recorded as part of his unit three and four sound production studies in 2022.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a song I wrote with my brother,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a modern interpretation of a more organic track, like a mix between John Butler-style guitar and modern production techniques for modern pop or dance tracks.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it appeals to older audiences who are keen for a cool guitar solo, but it has a bright compressed sound, so it appeals to a younger audience as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s nerve wracking that I\u2019m going to have to perform this, but I\u2019m thrilled.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s quite a compliment to the production and musicianship involved to have been accepted to Top Designs and Top Class Sound.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mobbs comes from a creative family and has been playing the guitar and piano since he was a child.<\/p>\n
He said he was inspired to write and produce his own music because of the way high-quality pop and dance songs made him feel.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes I work around a vocal, but my strength lies in the guitar in terms of instrument playing, so that\u2019s usually where the best ideas come from,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll write a chord progression or melody and expand those same ideas throughout the song.<\/p>\n
\u201cI enjoy translating all the ideas in my brain onto the computer, the creative process, mixing and mastering.\u201d<\/p>\n
