A DISPLAY celebrating autumn and featuring local artists has opened at Ballarat Town Hall.<\/p>\n

Part of Ballarat\u2019s designation as a UNESCO city of craft and folk art, the display changes seasonally.<\/p>\n

Local artist Sylvia Nevistic has handmade silver and brass spoons included as part of the current display.<\/p>\n

She said the mini exhibitions are a great way to promote Ballarat as a centre of creativity and that Ballarat\u2019s naming as a UNESCO city of craft and folk art is great for the artistic community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s exciting because it focuses on a regional town and I think it\u2019s a really great thing for Ballarat to be part of,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a jeweller and object maker, and I run spoon making classes every few months with one coming up in May which is in autumn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nevistic\u2019s works aim to capture delicate aspects of life and nature.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose who participate in the classes will be learning how to solder, how to form and how to finish a handmade spoon and the display is a way of showcasing a traditional craft in a contemporary way,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI use traditional techniques but the work I create is relatively contemporary.\u201d<\/p>\n

The display is open until Thursday, 20 April at Town Hall.<\/p>\n
