{"id":92343,"date":"2023-04-06T04:55:21","date_gmt":"2023-04-05T18:55:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=92343"},"modified":"2023-04-06T09:52:28","modified_gmt":"2023-04-05T23:52:28","slug":"musical-magic-in-creswick-streets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/musical-magic-in-creswick-streets\/","title":{"rendered":"Musical magic in Creswick streets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CRESWICK\u2019S live music and dance festival went off without a hitch last weekend as CresFest 2023 organisers saw their year of hard work and preparation come to life over three days.<\/p>\n<p>The streets were filled with music, with everything from international performers to children\u2019s choirs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe atmosphere in town was fantastic,\u201d said convenor Judy Turner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the surprising thing about any event like this is that you visualise it and then when it happens all sorts of different pictures emerge because the people who come along make it their festival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love the way people march into town with their instruments and gigs lined up and they\u2019re full of enthusiasm and that creates a kind of collective energy.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_92351\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-92351\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-92351\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2023\/04\/CresFest-17-web-600x380.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-92351\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Colourful: Fiona Williamson came prepared for anything!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Maeve Ashby, head of marketing at the festival, said there was a great vibe around town despite the odd rain shower.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you entered every venue or cafe, it was cosy, warm, pumping with music, very much the opposite of the last few years with COVID,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year is the first year we\u2019ve had international guests and that was very exciting to bring these people who are at the height of their talents from all over the world and to welcome them into Creswick.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve spoken to a couple of the local traders, and they\u2019ve said it was great last year but this year everything has pumped up a notch which is really exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_92345\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-92345\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-92345\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2023\/04\/CresFest-05-web-600x380.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-92345\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Weekend fun: Madelyn Jones, Anneke Deutsh, Essie Jones, Harry Jones, Mark Jones and Linda Cusack enjoying the festival.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ms Ashby said the volunteers were key to the festival\u2019s success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s good to remember this is only our second year and this year our program was double the size as well as the amount of tickets and people so it was very ambitious and I\u2019m so pleased everyone was having such a good time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve worked really hard to make sure our volunteers feel looked after because they are the backbone of the festival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also had a lot of people hosting musicians and artists in their homes and giving accommodation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Ashby said the CresFest organising committee is looking forward to making this an annual tradition for the town.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope for this to be an annual event and Hepburn Shire council have been super supportive as well as the State Government,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CRESWICK\u2019S live music and dance festival went off without a hitch last weekend as CresFest 2023 organisers saw their year of hard work and preparation come to life over three days.
