A LOCAL fishing club is looking for new members who are wanting to get social.<\/p>\n
The Ballarat Anglers Club, formed in 1899, meets on the third Thursday of every month.<\/p>\n
Club president Craig Hon said there are many opportunities for members to get involved in competitions with evening events, all night fishing comps and weekend experiences with trophies and awards on offer.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re a fishing club but we look to find members who like the social aspect of getting together and talking about likeminded sport,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe get together with various other clubs, so the social aspect isn\u2019t only with the members of our club.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver the years our membership has dwindled so we\u2019re looking to influence people to get involved in a club environment and get together and meet new people.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had the issue about 10 years ago with the droughts and then we had COVID and the influx of being able to get information on Facebook.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Hon said his main hope for the future is to keep the club running and get people involved.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have quite long history as we\u2019re over a 100-year-old club and we have a really strong relationship with Ballarat Legacy who we\u2019ve been donating to for over 90 years now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m 55 now and I originally joined the club when I was 12 so I have been with the club for a long time.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you like the social aspect and you want to learn there\u2019s people in the club who are certainly willing to help.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
