RESTORATION works have begun along the Yarrowee River as Central Highlands Water, the City of Ballarat and the Corangamite Catchment Authority team up with the aim of improving the waterway.<\/p>\n
Set to cost $800,000, the rehabilitation project runs from from Bridge Street in Sebastopol to Docwra Street in Magpie.<\/p>\n
The works will aim to help the river avoid future erosion and help protect the surrounding environment.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis great initiative and joint partnership will contribute to the health of our local waterways along the Yarrowee River banks,\u201d said Central Highlands Water Managing Director, Jeff Haydon.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe project will greatly assist the repair and enhancement of this local environment, with significant works underway to stabilise the embankment along a 1.8-kilometre stretch of the Yarrowee River.\u201d<\/p>\n
More than 4000 cubic meters of rocks will be placed along the river where erosion has taken place, while also seeking to protect wastewater treatment ponds next to the river.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very pleased to be a part of this initiative to improve the riverbank environment,\u201d said City of Ballarat mayor Cr Des Hudson.<\/p>\n
