TO celebrate Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s visit to Australia, Ballarat doctor Sachin Dahiya organised a chartered plane to see the world leader in Sydney.<\/p>\n
The flight, which sold out within 48 hours, was dubbed \u2018Modi Airways\u2019 and took off from Melbourne\u2019s Tullamarine airport.<\/p>\n
Dr Dahiya said it was important for him to see Mr Modi since his last visit was in 2014, with the Indian community in Australia growing significantly since then.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast time Mr Modi travelled to Australia was around nine years ago and since then the relationship has grown,\u201d said Dr Dahiya.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s why we planned to travel to the Modi event in Sydney.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr Dahiya said the atmosphere on the flight was of excitement and elation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe flight was a showcase of Indian diversity with different cultures, different religions, different dietary requirements,\u201d he said. \u201cThere was lots of music, lots of colours, lots of dance.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone was very excited to be on board.\u201d<\/p>\n
The flight also provided a platform for members from a range of different Indian communities to come together.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone was united and as one,\u201d said Dr Dahiya.<\/p>\n
Thousands of members of Australia\u2019s Indian community turned out to see Modi on his trip which was aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries.<\/p>\n
The Indian Prime Minister was given a warm welcome at Sydney Olympic Park last Tuesday alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.<\/p>\n
