A BALLARAT Arts Foundation fundraiser is set to shine the spotlight on one of the city\u2019s most famous performers.<\/p>\n
The foundation is hosting an in-conversation evening with pole performer, choreographer, and businesswoman Kristy Sellars, known for her success on America\u2019s Got Talent, and its Australian spin-off.<\/p>\n
Sellars is the founder of PhysiPole Studios, which began locally in 2009, and is now in 17 locations internationally.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy aim is to inspire and give local artists and kids some tips and help, whether they\u2019re at the beginning, middle or mastery level,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI pull a lot of inspiration from other artists, like composer Hans Zimmer. I don\u2019t feel like I\u2019m even close to mastering my art, but the more you know, the more you realise that you can learn more.<\/p>\n
\u201cI find it helpful to hear from other people who have been doing what they do for a long time, and I admire their work, so hopefully I can have that same impact on others.\u201d<\/p>\n
As part of the event, known as Life at the Top, Sellars will share stories from her career, including some behind the scenes moments from her work in television.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe experiences I had with Simon Cowell and Terry Crews are always a crowd favourite,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI often get asked how the shows work. Do the judges know you before you come out? Is it a surprise? I\u2019ll reveal the answers to some of those questions.\u201d<\/p>\n
BAF chair Paula Nicholson said the fundraiser is a unique opportunity for locals.<\/p>\n
\u201cKristy is a remarkable and highly talented young woman, generously supporting the efforts of the Ballarat Arts Foundation as we open our 2023 grant round application season,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBAF recognises many of their long-term donors with named awards, and this list is always growing, with more citizens recognising the impact and importance of the Arts and wanting to assist in some way.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sellars said it\u2019s crucial the arts sector is championed and funded in Ballarat.<\/p>\n
\u201cCreativity translates across every field, especially business,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m a creative person and businesswoman, and the more I can tap into my creativity, the better my businesses become.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe more support we can give to people starting out, through grants and the BAF mentorship program, the better.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not something that was really around when I started and there can be a barrier between creativity and payment.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving the chance to encourage artists in Ballarat is a huge reward for me, and the more money we raise, the more creative people we can support.\u201d<\/p>\n
