PERFORMERS in BLOC Music Theatre\u2019s junior company will tackle a modern Disney classic next week with a stage production of High School Musical.<\/p>\n
About 30 performers aged between 10 and 15 years old will bring their act to Mount Rowan Secondary College\u2019s performing arts auditorium from Thursday.<\/p>\n
The production will be BLOC\u2019s third adaptation of the show since 2008, and president and production manager Jason Muller said it\u2019s always a popular performance.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s always a very popular show for us and there\u2019s a new audience base because there\u2019s the new High School Musical series out that a lot of kids are watching,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile a lot of the cast in this show probably weren\u2019t born when the movie came out, I think there\u2019s a renewed popularity for it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Like the original 2006 film, the stage show follows teenagers Troy and Gabriella who sign up to take part in their high school musical.<\/p>\n
Mr Muller said the production will give each young performer their time in the spotlight.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very chorus-heavy so all the kids get a lot of opportunities for them to be on stage instead of the principals doing all the work,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are a couple new songs in this and because it\u2019s a static stage production it becomes a different show from that perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n
BLOC\u2019s High School Musical production will run five times from Thursday 6 to Sunday 9 July with two matinee shows over the weekend.<\/p>\n
