EVERYDAY objects and bric-a-brac have been taken from home to canvas nestled amongst similarly looking real-life counterparts at Creswick\u2019s Tin Can Collective.<\/p>\n
The pieces are part of Stillness, the latest art collection on display at the venue created by visual artist Alison Parkinson.<\/p>\n
She said the works are about the relationship between objects, space, and time.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re more meditative works,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s still life but a meditation.<\/p>\n
\u201cI like the play of the colours and how there\u2019s graduation. The weight of the colour is heavier at the bottom, so it\u2019s restful.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a balance to each image with the two objects side by side. There are two paintings of similar sizes so they balance with colour.\u201d<\/p>\n
The collection includes 14 oil paintings with most of the subjects taken from Parkinson\u2019s Newlyn home.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve got my great granny\u2019s clock in there. There are ducks on the wall in my house. It definitely ties in with the setting here as well,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Life drawings also feature in the show as well as five sculptures ranging from bronzed ceramic to black Irish clay creations.<\/p>\n
Parkinson said she hopes the works will inspire attendees to take a moment to reflect on their place in the world.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want people to take a pause and reflect and look at whether their life is balanced because that\u2019s what this is about,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want people to see who they\u2019re connected to in their community and have that sense of connection with themselves and other people. It definitely ties in with the setting here as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s sort of an internal state to understanding. For me, this was part of understanding myself.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stillness will be on show until Sunday 23 July.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
