BALLARAT Grammar student Georgia Lynch has been selected as a member of the Victorian Country Diversity All-Stars football squad.<\/p>\n
She played as part of the team against Victoria Metro in the program that aims to provide Indigenous and multi-cultural footballers with a chance to let their talent shine.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlayers are selected from around country Victoria, so we had some girls from Bendigo and Geelong and other places,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a really good experience. It was really fun being around other different groups and meeting people from the city and the country.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lynch, who is originally from Darwin, is also a member of the Greater Western Victoria Rebels\u2019 Coates Talent League squad.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a next step up in football from club footy with a development program that helps you develop your skills in a more elite way and helps you get set up if you do want to go into AFLW,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing a part of the Rebels, they were able to give me the opportunity to be part of the all-stars squad.\u201d<\/p>\n
The All-Stars Squad took to the field in June at Oakleigh\u2019s Warrawee Park and narrowly lost to the Victoria Metro Team.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt wasn\u2019t a huge margin, so it was still really good, and it was a great experience,\u201d said Lynch.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou meet a whole bunch of new girls, and it helps you feel like you\u2019re not alone because sometimes it can feel like you\u2019re by yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lynch said she hopes diversity and inclusion continues to be an important and encouraging part of football.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s important to have diversity because it will helps different groups have opportunities to go further in their sporting and it will help other people around Australia see that there are diverse groups,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
