A SINGLE-day workshop is set to be held next weekend with the aim of taking people on a deep dive into the world of permaculture.<\/p>\n
The event is being organised by members of the Ballarat Permaculture Guild and is an cut down version of their annual 16-day introductory course.<\/p>\n
Committee member Steve Burns said it\u2019ll teach newcomers all about the concept of permaculture, which prioritises flourishing natural ecosystems in land management.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe main aim is to give people an overview into what permaculture is about,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s designed to give people an insight into its ethics and design tools while focusing on the 12 principles that permaculture co-founder David Holmgren has developed and used.\u201d<\/p>\n
The workshop will be hosted by BPG members Rhea Thorn, Meg Luc-Romanis, and Hoang Nguyen, who\u2019ll each share their different experiences in adopting the principles of permaculture.<\/p>\n
Weather permitting, the group will visit an urban property to witness some of the workshop\u2019s principles being utilised.<\/p>\n
Mr Burns said the introductory workshops are a great way to drive recruitment for the group.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe often find this confirms people\u2019s interests who then get more active in coming to our events,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a great social network as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
BPG currently has about 120 financial members with nearly 4000 people following their workshops and activities via their Facebook group.<\/p>\n
The Introduction to Permaculture workshop will run from 10am to 4.30pm on Saturday 29 July at the Uniting Care Building at 42A Dyte Parade, Ballarat East.<\/p>\n
