BEGINNER and experienced knitters are invited to learn new skills and share their talents in a group that meets weekly at St Paul\u2019s, Bakery Hill.<\/p>\n
The sessions run every Thursday from 11.30am until 1pm and participants are asked to bring their own needles and yarn, with patterns, tea and coffee provided.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe group was established to provide an opportunity to share skills and build community,\u201d said group member Sue Lanyon.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love meeting people and enjoying company and conversation and I enjoy the variety of interests that people being to the knitting group.\u201d<\/p>\n
Participants support each other learning new techniques, learning to read patterns, and solving any problems which may arise.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a great group because everybody knows something different and are prepared to share,\u201d said Ms Lanyon.<\/p>\n
It also provides a place for conversation and social connection.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a good reason to get out of the house because sometimes you can get stuck doing life so it\u2019s nice to have a time of the week where you can catch up with some likeminded people,\u201d said group member Judith McQueen.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt gives you something to look forward to.\u201d<\/p>\n
For Denise Wellington, the group provided an opportunity make new friends after moving back to Ballarat.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a terrific way to meet new people as a person who\u2019s returned to Ballarat after being away for quite a few years,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo actually interact with people who I\u2019ve never met before and feel comfortable straight away and be made to feel part of a team is really important.\u201d<\/p>\n
