THE sky above Dean will soon be beset by all things flag when an annual event returns for its tenth-year next month.<\/p>\n
The Dean Kite Festival, held annually at the town\u2019s recreation reserve and run by the site\u2019s committee, is set to take place on Sunday 3 September with all manner of flying attractions.<\/p>\n
Event organiser and committee secretary Jon Rofe said the day will be all about air-travelling crafts.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll have a kite-making workshop where people can make a small kite of their own and enjoy flying it out on the field,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have some kite enthusiasts from Kites 4 Kids who come along with a pretty impressive flying demonstration on the day.<\/p>\n
While entry is free, the kite-making workshop will cost $10.<\/p>\n
Proceeds will go towards managing and upgrading the recreation reserve, with past events contributing to updating the pavilion\u2019s kitchen as well as a PA system and outdoor furniture.<\/p>\n
A fundraiser raffle will also be held and cash from that will go towards a local charity.<\/p>\n
Previous events have supported the Dean CFA and the Ballarat Soup Bus.<\/p>\n
Mr Rofe said the event has always been a successful family day for the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis seems to be growing in popularity every year. We normally see about 200 to 300 people on a good day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a good opportunity to come out to a rural location and enjoy some good country hospitality and enjoy the day with their family and friends.\u201d<\/p>\n
