CREATIVE Ballarat is looking for a new artist in residence for the Lydiard Street Arts Hub.<\/p>\n
Expressions of interest to fill the position are now open for the space located between the Art Gallery of Ballarat and the Post Office Gallery.<\/p>\n
Operating costs are covered by the City of Ballarat and expressions of interest are open for a three or six-month residency.<\/p>\n
The space is designed for a visual artist, maker, performer, crafter, writer, designer or creative to have a dedicated space to work on their practice.<\/p>\n
Mayor Cr Des Hudson encouraged creatives in Ballarat to take up the opportunity.<\/p>\n
\u201cBe confident, be willing to have a go and be willing to showcase what your talent is because by doing that you never know where your journey will take you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery famous artist had a starting point, and this may be an opportunity for an emerging artist to do the same.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Arts Hub makes up part of Ballarat\u2019s designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Craft And Folk Art, and Cr Hudson said creativity is important to the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the creative aspects which breathe the heart and soul and life into our community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur creatives are normally the heartbeat that make us want to come out and participate in life.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s part of that rich tapestry that makes Ballarat such a great place.\u201d<\/p>\n
Applications close Sunday 17 September with more information available at the Creative Ballarat website.<\/p>\n
