SWEET sounds are echoing through St Paul\u2019s Anglican Church in Bakery Hill as a group gathers regularly to share their love of music.<\/p>\n
They meet every Tuesday from 4pm until 5pm and rehearse a range of songs.<\/p>\n
Group leader Anne Doggett said the choir is a great opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy music.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are a little singing group that meets together, and our purpose is to give everybody the opportunity to sing in a group,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not about getting up and doing wonderful performances, although we do occasionally, but it\u2019s more just giving everyone a chance to sing because there\u2019s not enough of it our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
She encouraged anyone who may be apprehensive to come along and experience the supportive environment.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf people are worried they should come to a group like this rather than going to a choir where they have to audition,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s somewhere where they come and sing whether they think they\u2019re good singers or not because everyone has a voice.\u201d<\/p>\n
Unlike other activities like sports, card games or bingo, the choir is not competitive with everyone coming together to sing.<\/p>\n
\u201cSinging is one of the few activities that we engage in that doesn\u2019t involve confrontation and it\u2019s not about taking sides and is something we can do together,\u201d said Ms Doggett.<\/p>\n
Barrie McCausland, one of the group\u2019s members, said taking part in the choir has been a great learning experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe get a variety of experience here and Anne choses a remarkable wide range of stuff for us like things I didn\u2019t expect when I heard about the group,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven at our advanced year\u2019s Anne\u2019s teaching us how to sing better than we had before.\u201d<\/p>\n
