FREE antenatal evenings are being held by the Ballarat and District Multiple Births Association in October.<\/p>\n
The sessions will take place on Thursday 19 October and Thursday 26 October from 6.30pm at Russel Square and aim to provide support for parents expecting multiples.<\/p>\n
There will be information provided by anaesthesiologists, physiotherapists, and experienced multiple parents.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat you get is one-one-one with an independent obstetrician and someone who has a lot of experience with twins and multiple births,\u201d said Matt Britton, the co-ordinator of the sessions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also get a lactation consultant, a midwife, and a mum and dad\u2019s perspective to give a bit of insight.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat stuff is gold for people.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Britton said it is hoped the events will provide parents with confidence and reassurance.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s about being comfortable because from our experience not many people go through a multiple birth so there isn\u2019t as much knowledge, reassurance and tools out there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are giving parents information about what they\u2019re going to be up for.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Britton joined the Ballarat and District Multiple Births Association after an unexpected twin pregnancy and said the antenatal sessions provided valuable information.<\/p>\n
\u201cMultiple kids are just so different even like how to feed them both at the same time, what happens in deliveries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe went to the Multiple Births Association, and it was probably the best thing we did because we thought we knew it but it gave us more tools.\u201d<\/p>\n
As well as providing information for expecting parents, the sessions can be a way to meet other parents in the same position.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt also creates a community because the people we went to the antenatal nights with, we are now really good mates,\u201d said Mr Britton.<\/p>\n
