ADELAIDE band Street Legal are bringing their indie-new wave rock sounds to Volta next month.<\/p>\n
The 18-month-old outfit\u2019s singer Matt Hayward said his group is inspired by music of the 1980s, like Spit Enz, The Reels, and Midnight Oil, and iconic ABC music show Countdown.<\/p>\n
They\u2019re set to play some originals and a special surprise cover.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a very energetic, lively performance, and we have our own aesthetic style with members of the band wearing red coveralls,\u201d Hayward said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe released a single, Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow, earlier in year which went viral on internet and was popular here in Adelaide, and we\u2019re releasing a new, slower song with a ballad theme, similar to Icehouse, called Modern Ruins.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all play in other punk and and more rock bands, so the performances stem from that.<\/p>\n
\u201cLike the pub rock era of Australian music, we\u2019ll tour \u2018til the end of the world; \u2018til the wheels of the bus fall off.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hayward said the band is looking forward to sharing their political ideas with new listeners.<\/p>\n
\u201cThematically, the music looks at social politics, so we want to highlight that in Ballarat, which is the birthplace of Australian democracy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe aim to raise awareness of social injustice, and we\u2019re big proponents of the yes vote, so we\u2019ll be highlighting those issues.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ballarat band Meraki Minds and Geelong opener Cooldad are set to be the support acts.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re really excited to play in front of a new audience and we invite everyone out, even if they don\u2019t traditionally love rock shows, because they might find something they really enjoy,\u201d Hayward said.<\/p>\n
