{"id":97020,"date":"2023-10-05T04:49:33","date_gmt":"2023-10-04T17:49:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=97020"},"modified":"2023-10-04T22:11:59","modified_gmt":"2023-10-04T11:11:59","slug":"celebrating-seniors-all-month-long","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/living\/celebrating-seniors-all-month-long\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating seniors all month long"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Premier Jacinta Allan is encouraging everyone to enjoy Victorian Seniors Festival this October.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>THE Victorian Seniors Festival is back for 2023!<\/p>\n<p>The festival, which will run throughout October, will include thousands of opportunities for older Victorians and their families and friends to participate in free and low-cost events, activities, and entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>During the festival, Victorian Seniors Card holders will get eight days of free public transport, from Sunday 1 October to Sunday 8 October, so you can get out and explore attractions across Melbourne as well as regional and rural Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>A list of events being held throughout the Seniors Festival can be found at <strong>seniorsonline.vic.gov.au\/festival-calendar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Victorian Seniors Card was introduced in 1991, with more than one million Victorian Seniors now holding a card.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_97024\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-97024\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-97024\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2023\/10\/542606993-huntly-station-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2023\/10\/542606993-huntly-station-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2023\/10\/542606993-huntly-station.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-97024\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ms Allan at the opening of Huntly Station in Bendigo in 2022.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Seniors Card encourages people to continue to keep active and engaged in the community by providing incentives and making it more affordable to get out and about.<\/p>\n<p>To be eligible for the card, you need to meet these three criteria:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Be 60 years of age or older;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Work less than 35 hours per week in paid employment; and<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Be a permanent resident of Australia, residing in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>Seniors Card holders receive numerous benefits, including discounts from over 4000 participating businesses across Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>To apply for a Seniors Card, submit an application form online at <strong>seniorsonline.vic.gov.au<\/strong> or contact your local State MP for assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Victorian Seniors Card holders are also eligible for a Seniors myki, which provides the following benefits:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; A 50 per cent discount on trains, trams, and buses, including V\/Line trains and coaches.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Free weekend travel in any two consecutive zones and on regional town buses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Access to free off-peak travel vouchers each year.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about the Seniors myki can be found at <strong>ptv.vic.gov.au\/tickets\/myki\/concessions-and-free-travel\/seniors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>-SPONSORED CONTENT<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Premier Jacinta Allan is encouraging everyone to enjoy Victorian Seniors Festival this October.
