FIBRE and textile artist Anzara Clark has opened her latest exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ballarat\u2019s Backspace Gallery.<\/p>\n
Where the Light Enters<\/em> looks at wounds, cracks and brokenness and how light may enter these spaces which normally remain dark.<\/p>\n The two and three-dimensional works use thrown away and damaged paper to convey a sense of moving forward.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019re two aspects of the exhibition and one is the material process aspect as my work focuses on paper textiles and I\u2019m really fascinated with continuing to explore how much paper can act like a textile,\u201d said Clark.<\/p>\n \u201cThe other aspect refers to a statement by Rumi about where the light enters and it\u2019s really an exploration of wounding and healing.\u201d<\/p>\n Clark aims to illicit a sense that the works are made from fabric, despite being made from paper.<\/p>\n \u201cOne of the things that I love about paper is it sort of gently jolts people\u2019s assumptions or perceptions,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople look at it and think its fabric and then say \u2018oh goodness, it\u2019s paper, I didn\u2019t know you could do that with paper.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cIt gets people to look at things from a different angle.\u201d<\/p>\n It is also hoped the exhibition will portray that healing is not a linear process.<\/p>\n \u201cHealing happens in its own way and time, it\u2019s not always clean, it\u2019s messy and doesn\u2019t guarantee curing,\u201d said Clark.<\/p>\n \u201cEven when you do heal and move forward, it changes you and leaves scars.\u201d<\/p>\n The exhibition is now open and will close on Sunday 3 December.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" FIBRE and textile artist Anzara Clark has opened her latest exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ballarat\u2019s Backspace Gallery.
