PREMIER Jacinta Allan and Minister for Housing Harriet Shing were in Delacombe last week to tour some brand-new social houses.<\/p>\n
Eleven units have been constructed at Dakshina Court as part of the State Government\u2019s Big Housing Build, and in partnership with CatholicCare, they will soon house people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are terrific examples of quality social and affordable housing that the Government is building in partnership with the community housing sector,\u201d Ms Allan said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are new homes for regional Victorians in Ballarat who do need some support to have the dignity of a roof over the head.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs the furnishings are finished in the next couple of weeks, we\u2019ll see local residents be able to move into a brand-new home and have the dignity of a modern, environmentally sustainable, safe, secure and stable home.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s particularly a great feature of the partnership with CatholicCare is… the addition of the services that CentaCare provide, whether that\u2019s support to find a job, or accessing mental health or counselling services.\u201d<\/p>\n
CatholicCare Victoria Housing CEO Fiona Williams said the organisation\u2019s aim is to address issues related to housing insecurity.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got a list of people ready to go in, and they\u2019re chomping at the bit to move in, which is awesome,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are some of 80 dwellings that we\u2019re delivering in Ballarat between now and mid-2025.\u201d<\/p>\n
Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison, and the Member for Buninyong, Michaela Settle toured the homes alongside the Premier and minister, and Ms Addison emphasised the liveability of the location.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s wonderful is that within a kilometre, there\u2019s a Bunnings, Woolworths, a Kmart, and GP services, and there\u2019s a bus stop just on the corner,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a great place where people can be a part of the community, feel connected, and live in a lovely new house alongside other people getting a fresh start. It will really make a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
