THE results of Ballarat Foundation\u2019s spring cost of living survey are in, with data reporting more than eighty per cent of respondents were stressed about paying for bills and food.<\/p>\n
More than half struggled to pay for food, and cancelled medical appointments due to cost.<\/p>\n
As stewards of the campaign, Ballarat Foundation launched the Ballarat Christmas Appeal on Wednesday, and it seems it couldn\u2019t arrive at a better time.<\/p>\n
The aim is to raise more than $100,000 within the next two months to support local families in need.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe cost of living in our community is putting immense pressure on our emergency relief agencies and charities to respond,\u201d CEO Andrew Eales said.<\/p>\n
Donations and funds raised for the appeal are distributed to local beneficiary emergency relief agencies St Vincent de Paul, Uniting, Anglicare, and the Salvation Army.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur registrations opened on Wednesday morning for the Christmas Appeal, and there were about 30 people already lined up to register,\u201d said Salvos\u2019 Doorways coordinator Benita Marson.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey were registering for goods donated to us, and were signed up for a food hamper, a voucher, and a bag full of toys.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s all about ensuring Ballarat families in need can have the best Christmas possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
Financial donations can be made at ballaratfoundation.org.au, with all donations over $2 tax deductible.<\/p>\n
Non-perishable food, unwrapped toys, and gifts can be taken to Uniting at 105 Dana Street, Anglicare at 14 Victoria Street, the Salvos at 102 Eureka Street, and Dawson House at 15 Dawson Street south.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
