THE memorial rotunda beside the Arch of Victory is set to be rededicated this weekend as part of Remembrance Day events.<\/p>\n
Over the last couple of months, rotunda has been restored with an aim to ensure moisture doesn\u2019t impact its rendering and concrete.<\/p>\n
On Saturday 11 November at 9.20am the rededication is set to take place before an official service at 9.30am.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile remembering all of our servicemen and women, this year\u2019s Arch service will specifically remember 20 Ballarat men who attended local schools then lost their lives in the First World War and who have no known grave,\u201d said Arch of Victory-Avenue of Honour Committee president Garry Snowden.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt our services we always like to remember, by name, some men or women from our Avenue.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile experiencing the grief of losing a loved one, the families of this year\u2019s group were also denied the very small consolation of at least knowing that their son, husband, father or brother was buried under a headstone bearing their name.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are expecting that a number of schools will attend to lay a tribute in memory of a past student who gave his life for our country.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although originally built in 1938, the memorial rotunda was placed in the Arch precinct during a period of redevelopment during the early-1990s.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
