Immediately following the incident, Mrs Jones\u2019 sisters organised a GoFundMe page which has since raised more than $6000.<\/p>\n
The family\u2019s church, one2one Church of Christ, have also chipped in with a fundraising account that has raised more than $5500.<\/p>\n
Currently living in temporary accommodation, Mr Jones said the family has been \u201coverwhelmed\u201d by the community\u2019s drive to help.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone\u2019s support has been amazing,\u201d he said. \u201cIn fact, when I walked out of the house, I only had a pair of shorts on, and a neighbour gave me the shirt on my back.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Jones\u2019 next-door neighbours offered their house as accommodation, while others have sent through gift vouchers, clothing, food, and toys and Christmas presents for their children.<\/p>\n
The donated funds will be held by the family to be later spent on replacing furniture and amenities.<\/p>\n
Mrs Jones said words can\u2019t express the family\u2019s gratitude to their community.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes it\u2019s the simple things in life you just can\u2019t cope with doing or making a decision about, so things like having dinner cooked for us was amazing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou think it\u2019s the minority of people that care, but really through this we\u2019ve come to realise it\u2019s the majority that care especially at this time of year and even with the rising cost of living.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just have no words.\u201d<\/p>\n
