FEBRUARY will see the Eureka Centre resume its role as a community hub with various local groups to run activities and workshops.<\/p>\n
Ballarat Libraries will be running weekly story times as well as play and sing sessions with Coco Sounds.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Ballarat East Neighbourhood Centre will be hosting gentle yoga sessions and advanced Auslan classes.<\/p>\n
Centre manager Anthony Camm said the program of events is about making connections with the broader community.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince we opened in 2018, we\u2019ve grown our own public programs but recently we\u2019ve been working with program partners to increase the activity in the centre and connect to the community in a more general way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Eureka Centre has always been a hub for the community and I think there is perceptions that it is just a museum and there for visitors.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving these activities increases the reach and relevance of the centre to the wider community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Manager of Ballarat East Neighbourhood House, Sarah Greenwood-Smith, said it is important for the organisation to host activities in different locations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were looking to offer some of our activities at different venues around Ballarat East and the Eureka Centre is a fabulous location,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the things about a neighbourhood house is that it\u2019s about the neighbourhood, not just the house.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe feel that it\u2019s useful to run activities right across the broader Ballarat East area.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Eureka Centre also provides opportunities for socialisation outside of the classes.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the big drawcards for people is having Lilly\u2019s Caf\u00e9 on site because a lot of the reason why people participate in activities is for social connection so they can pop into the cafe before or after their session,\u201d said Ms Greenwood-Smith.<\/p>\n
