TASKED with solving a second mystery, Edwina \u2018Ted\u2019 Bristol PI has returned this month in Elizabeth Coleman\u2019s latest book,\u00a0A Dance With Murder.<\/i>
\nAs part of the release, the Ballarat author and screenwriter is set to take readers behind the scenes and give them a look into her process at a Ballaarat Mechanics\u2019 Institute-hosted event in February.
\nIn conversation with friend and local author of\u00a0The Woman Who Knew Too Little<\/i>, Olivia Wearne, Coleman will largely discuss the Ted Bristol sequel, and overall series.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s so lovely to connect with readers, because you\u2019re locked away in your office for so long when you\u2019re writing a novel,\u201d she said.
\n\u201cThen to get out and about and meet readers, interact with them and answer their questions is just so great.
\n\u201cIt feels like a lovely cherry on top after all the hard work, and with local people it\u2019s extra special.\u201d
\nColeman is also a screenwriter, known for her work on television series,\u00a0Miss Fisher\u2019s Murder Mysteries<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Ms Fisher\u2019s Modern Murder Mysteries<\/i>.
\n\u201cPeople are very interested in the transition from screenwriting to novel writing, so that\u2019s always something I like to talk about that engages people,\u201d she said.
\n\u201cBut I\u2019m open to talking about what Olivia wants to chat about, and what the audience wants to ask me about as well.
\n\u201cI don\u2019t want it to be too formal, I\u2019m really happy if everyone gets into it.\u201d
\nColeman and Wearne met and developed a friendship last year when they realised they were both Ballarat based and releasing new novels one day apart.
\n\u201cWe hit it off straight away and loved each other\u2019s books,\u201d Coleman said.
\n\u201cI\u2019m hoping she\u2019ll have a new book next year and that I can return the favour and chat to her about hers at another author event.
\n\u201cShe is a lovely connection to have in town.\u201d
\nWearne said\u00a0A Dance With Murder<\/i>\u00a0is a lot of fun, full of twists and turns.
\n\u201cWe don\u2019t want to give too much away about the book, because there\u2019s thrills and spills,\u201d she said.
\n\u201cI\u2019ll ask Elizabeth about her process as a writer, what brought her to writing, and what a day in the life is like for her.
\n\u201cFor me as an author, where each book I write is quite different, I\u2019m intrigued about what it\u2019s like to write a series, where each one ends on a cliff hanger.\u201d
\nThe pair had an in-conversation event at the BMI last year, which Wearne said was a \u201csmash hit.\u201d
\n\u201cWe got really positive feedback and everyone had a ball, so as well as being informative and a behind-the-scenes look, we know this one will be a lot of fun,\u201d she said.
\n\u201cElizabeth and I have a really good chemistry, we have a lot of laughs, and it\u2019s very entertaining.\u201d
\nA Routine Infidelity<\/i>, the first book in the Ted Bristol series, set in Melbourne, was published at the start of 2023.
\n\u201cTed has a miniature schnauzer called Miss Marple who helps her solve crimes,\u201d Coleman said. \u201cThe books are what I\u2019d call \u2018cosy crime,\u2019 but with guts.\u201d
