FREE Auslan interpreted tours for deaf and hard of hearing visitors will run on Saturday, August 24, furthering accessibility and inclusion at Tweed cultural organisations.

The Culture with Auslan in Murwillumbah tour includes the Tweed Regional Gallery and the Tweed Regional Museum. Gallery and museum staff and Auslan interpreters will bring highlights of the exhibitions at each institution to life.

The tour begins at 10.30 am at the Tweed Regional Museum in Murwillumbah with an Auslan-guided Land / Life / Culture exhibition tour. This display introduces visitors to the unique natural and cultural heritage of the Tweed – one of the largest natural erosion calderas in the world, shaped by dynamic forces over millions of years.

It also features essential biodiversity information and Indigenous cultural knowledge from local First Nations community members.

The 12.30 pm tour at the Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre will feature Know My Name: Australian Women Artists. The story of Australian art in which women created new art forms and cultural commentary is in its final days.

The recreation of Margaret Olley’s famous Duxford Street home studio is permanently displayed and is a source of inspiration to contemporary artists working in the genre of still life painting. A Dictionary for Painting: Margaret Olley, Keith Burt, Robert Malherbe, the second featured display, explores new works created in response to Olley’s practice and objects in her home studio – described by Olley’s friend and biographer, Christine France, as ‘a dictionary for painting’.

Both venues have accessible parking and are wheelchair accessible.

Tickets are free and bookings are recommended at events.humanitix.com/culture-with-auslan-in-murwillumbah
